The Tour de France

le-tour-de-france

le-tour-de-franceThe Wife and I are big fans of the Tour de France. Yes, we started watching it during the lance Armstrong years like many others in the U.S. (Well, at least many of those who started watching during the Lance years. The Tour lacks a big TV audience.)

We loved the Tour just as much during the years Lance was retired. Maybe even more so, because the competition was wide open. We really liked the competition, the images and stories wrapped around this incredible race.  We also love the announcers: Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. The Tour coverage is better than the reruns and other dreck on television during July.

We are both excited for the Tour to start on Saturday for the 96th time. This year the Tour starts in Monaco for a prologue time trial. This year also marks the return of the team time trial stage.

To celebrate my thoughts, I put together another article on GeekDad: Top Ten Reasons That Geeks Should Love the Tour de France.

Crittercam Post on GeekDad

crittercam-logo

crittercam-logoFor Father’s Day, The Son and I went to Boston’s Museum of Science. One of the highlights was the Crittercam exhibit. So I wrote up a blog post for GeekDad: Get an Animal’s-Eye View With Crittercam.

Take a minute and check out the story.

Thanks to the Museum of Science for inviting GeekDad to their Media Day. We did and saw lots of great things during the trip including a show by the Amazing Nano Brothers Juggling Show and a viewing of Mystic India on the Imax.  But those will have to wait for other posts.

Happy Father’s Day

geekdad happy fathers day

geekdad happy fathers day

I am spending the day at Boston’s Museum of Science with The Son. (Mrs. Doug gets The Daughter for the day.) The museum is hosting a media day on Father’s Day. Apparently they think being a contributor to the GeekDad blog counts as being part of the media. Who am I to argue when they offer me a line-up like this:

I will be re-telling the day in an upcoming GeekDad post.

For all you dads out there (geek or otherwise), Happy Father’s Day!

I love a good cake. I also love the Cake Wrecks blog, highlighting horrors of cake designs. On the weekends, the blog highlights great cakes instead of wrecks. This weekend highlighted some great Star Wars cakes, like this fully edible Millenium Falcon.

Lego Bricks in Bulk

Lego Bricks in Bulk

Measuring Lego Bricks

I just published a new GeekDad post on getting mass quantities of Lego bricks: Finding Lego Bricks in Bulk.

Ray Sims went to eBay and found people selling Lego bricks by the pound and others selling bricks in hundred piece packages. I saw his twitter message on the issue. That gave me the idea of trying an experiment with The GeekSon on how many pieces are in a pound of Lego bricks.

This GeekDad post summarizes our findings. (And Mrs. Doug’s thoughts on getting lots more Lego bricks!)
