Time Thinks GeekDad is one of the Best Blogs of 2010

Time_magazine_logo

Time made its annual pick of blogs they can’t live without for 2010. Making the list was my own GeekDad.

“There’s no better mix of cool stuff and nostalgia-inducing throwbacks online than on GeekDad. Targeted at fathers with a nerd bent, this blog from Wired includes creative, kid-friendly projects like making your own monster movie and shares how to relive your impoverished youth (think buying a massive box of ramen). The blog’s strength is that it doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. GeekDad is laser-focused on the father who wasn’t the cool kid in high school but is now the envy of every dad on the block.”

I need to point out that there is plenty of stuff in GeekDad for the moms as well as dads. We even have several mom contributors.

Canadian Law Blog Awards

Canadian Law Blog Awards

Steve Matthews of Stem Legal has announced the winners of the Canadian Law Blog Awards for 2008.

Congratulations to the winners!

2008 Canadian Law Blog Awards WinnerFor the second year in a row that includes me. Once again, Steve bestowed a Friend of the North Award, as a U.S. blogger that looks north of the border to network and exchange ideas. I am honored to share this award with Mary Abraham of Above and Beyond KM (newly re-launched at www.aboveandbeyondkm.com).

I was happy to see Jordan Furlong’s Law21 as the winner of best Canadian Law Blog. He has wonderful insight into the practice and business of law.

It was tough to beat out SLAW with its all star line-up of contributors, including Jordan. They did not go home empty-handed. SLAW grabbed the CLawBie Legal Culture Award and Best Legal Technology Award.

The delightful Connie Crosby picked up the Non-legal Audience Award CLawBie for her Connie Crosby blog and micro-blogging on Twitter.

Those also happened to be my three nominees for CLawbies.

CIO 100 Awards

CIO.com announced the winners of their 2008 CIO 100 Awards honoring 100 companies that are creating new business value by innovating with technology.

Two law firms made the list:

Goodwin Procter for Matter Pages

Goodwin Procter deployed Matter Pages to manage matter-related information for more than 850 attorneys working in eight different locations. Matter Pages uses Microsoft SharePoint to provides a single access point to all matter-related information, along with a wiki that attorneys can use to discuss their work and exchange information. Among its benefits, the system enables attorneys to pull together information for clients with a click, when before it used to take hours.

Shook, Hardy & Bacon for CityLink:

The law firm redesigned its corporate portal, CityLink, to support an integrated, collaborative work environment. The portal provides tools, including shared calendars, RSS newsfeeds, blogs and wikis, along with links to internal websites and client-oriented extranets. CityLink uses Microsoft’s SharePoint to integrate a variety of corporate data repositories ranging from human resources and accounting information to client records and litigation support databases.

Five of the winners labeled their project’s type as knowledge management:

(I am not sure why the Goodwin Procter project was not labeled as knowledge management.)

CLawBies Follow-Up

CLawBies Follow-Up

Steve Matthews was kind enough to not only award me a CLawBie, but to actually put together an award badge.

Now I can clear my shelf, waiting for the trophy to arrive.

Maybe a trophy like this:

Or Like this:

Since the award is from Canada, it may be more like this:

Blawggies Award

Dennis Kennedy put up his annual tradition of The 2007 Blawggies: Dennis Kennedy’s Best Law-related Blogging Awards.

KM Space got the award for best new Best New Law-related Blog.

Really, it was an honor just to be nominated. But, I put together a short acceptance speech. I wanted to thank my wife for putting up with me and my children for still thinking I am cool. I want to thank Trudy Ernst, the Director of Knowledge Management, for encouraging me to keep it going. I want to thank the Marketing Department for not stopping me from blogging. I want to thank David Hobbie, of Caselines, for listening to my ramblings about blogging.

(The orchestra begins playing.)

I want to thank Dennis Kennedy and Kevin O’Keefe for their insight into blogging and lawyers in social media. I want to thank . . .

(And we go to commercial.)
