We had a PMC team training ride on Sunday and it was HOT.
We started early to try to get out in front of the heat. By the time we were closing on the finish, the temperature was above 100 degrees.
On such a hot day, a frozen lemonade sounded great. The planning for the ride was inspired by the second item on this list of 40 tiny, perfect things about summer in New England: Del’s Lemonade.
Unfortunately, our early start to avoid the heat, meant we got to Del’s before it opened.
Fortunately, for a rest stop, we found a nearby convenience for some cold drinks. We also found a new friend and some entertainment. This wonderful woman, a self-described “townie”, regaled us with stories. Bringing smiles to our faces, maybe to help forget missing Del’s.
She pulled away in her car, but stopped and got back out. Asking if we wanted a picture. No. That was wrong. She wanted to take a picture of us, on her phone. Um… Why? Oh. Oh my.
Later we pulled into a 7-11 for Slurpees. They were an inferior substitution for a frozen Del’s Lemonade. No townie stories at this stop. But it was hot and the drinks were cold.
