PMC Unpaved 2023

The first PMC Unpaved in 2022 was a great kick-off for PMC fundraising with dirt roads. I came back again to the grounds of Camp Mah-Kee-Nac in the Berkshires.

Friday night we gathered at camp for dinner, followed by smores and comradery around the campfires with my fellow Team Kinetic Karma riders: Dave, Dan, Rob, and Stephen. We also convinced Chris to join our team shortly after the ride. Of course, we joined with Team Brainstorms.

Since it’s late September, you can’t count on good weather. Cool weather is expected. The forecast had been for a tropical storm to swing over New England. I was prepared for a lot of suffering in the cold rain. To our surprise we woke to dry skies. (Last year we started in the rain.) There was lots of discussion around what to wear, other than the great PMC Unpaved vest. Had to figure out how many layers, which gloves, leg warmers (or not).

I went without leg warmers. It ended up being nice enough at the start. (That would not last.)

We took off from the start for the Eagle route of 50 miles. I’m not sure I even saw the sign for the 30 mile Raven route. All though it’s the Pan-Mass Challenge, we celebrated crossing into New York, with a big chunk of the gravel roads in New York.

Then the rain came. Drizzle at first, then a deluge, then drizzle.

Even in the rain, we were able to find Zinnia’s Pedal Partner sign.

Until next year….
